Shooting medal, Sergeant (later Lieutenant) James Nolan, 1st Battalion, Royal Dublin Fusiliers, 1911
Silver Royal Army Temperance Association shooting medal, with a laurel wreath and the name of the recipient, with unit abbreviation, rank and number, 'No.7594 Sgt. J. Nolan "B" Coy. 1/R.D.Fus.', on the obverse. On the reverse is inscribed, 'Winner R.ATA. Shooting Shield 1911'.
During World War One (1914-1918), Company Sergeant Major James Nolan was awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal in 1918 and was subsequently commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant. He went on to be awarded the Military Cross and was promoted to the rank of lieutenant.
