Cap badge , 69th Punjabis, 1903-1922

Bronze badge in the form of a galley rigged for sail above the regimental numeral, '69', above a scroll bearing the title, 'Punjabis'.

The 69th Punjabis had its origins in the 1760s with the creation of the 10th Coast Sepoys which evolved into the 9th Regiment Madras Native Infantry. The 69th Punjabis were formed in 1903 and became the 2nd Battalion 2nd Punjab Regiment in 1922.

The 69th Punjabis retained the emblem of the oared galley, given to its forebear unit in 1839, to mark a willingness to serve overseas. The 69th Punjabis served in the Middle East, Gallipoli and on the Western Front during World War One (1914-1918).
