Case for Tranter percussion revolver owned by General William Charles Forrest, 4th (Royal Irish) Dragoon Guards

Wooden case containing three screwdrivers, a powder flask, cleaning rod, two jags, an oil bottle, two pots of lubricating composition, a combination tool (broken) and a two gang bullet mould, as well as a tin of percussion caps and bag of bullets.

In 1844 Captain Forrest (1819-1902) exchanged out of the 11th Hussars into the 4th (Royal Irish) Dragoon Guards, escaping Lord Cardigan's imperious command. During the Crimean War (1854-1856) Forrest served as second-in-command of the 4th Dragoon Guards to Colonel Hodge. Forrest took part in the Charge of the Heavy Brigade at the Battle of Balaklava on 25 October 1854.

In 1863 Forrest received command of the 7th (Princess Royal's) Dragoon Guards and in 1875 was appointed Companion of the Order of the Bath while Honorary Colonel of the 11th Hussars. He died in 1902.
