Wirecutter for a Short Magazine Lee Enfield, 1917 (c)
Thick belts of barbed wire were placed in front of the front-line trenches on the Western Front. Attacking armies tried to blast routes through the wire by shelling but soldiers often had to cut their way through with clippers and tools like this cutter that attached to a soldier's rifle.
