Two medical orderlies carry a wounded soldier under the watchful eye of an attendant nurse. British medical facilities in South Africa were more effective than in previous campaigns. 28 field ambulances, five stationary hospitals and 16 general hospitals were established to deal with casualties.

From a box of 89 stereoscopic cards entitled, 'South African War through the Stereoscope Pt 2 Vol 1', published by Underwood and Underwood, and produced by Works and Sun Sculpture Studios, 1900 (c).
