Camp kettle used by an unknown soldier at the Battle of Waterloo, 18 June 1815

The weather the night before the Battle of Waterloo (18 June 1815) was atrocious, with heavy rain making conditions in camp miserable. Soldiers would have struggled to keep warm and heat up their food and tea.

Cylindrical iron kettle which tapers towards the bottom, with hinged wire handles from two brackets at the front and back, and a 'S' shaped spout. With a heating stove which has a copper door at the front, and ventilation holes at the top and bottom a spirit stove fits inside as a heat source and the kettle on top.
