'Punishment Drill', 1830
Etching by William Heath and published by Thomas McLean, 1830.
The Duke of Wellington was appointed Prime Minister in 1828, serving until 1830 before returning to office once more in 1834. This caricature makes reference to several of the major issues he faced during his first tenure. Although he oversaw Catholic Emancipation (1829), he courted unpopularity by opposing the 1832 Reform Act.
