Ram's horn silver-plated snuff mull, 27th Madras Native Infantry, 1857
This snuff mull is made from Indian silver and was part of the mess plate of the 27th and its successor unit the 2nd Punjab Regiment. Snuff is a type of tobacco that is sniffed rather than smoked. Its lid is inscribed with thistles and cairngorms, a semi-precious stone that takes its name from the Scottish mountains.
