'Jugdullack Post looking North from the high picket August 9th 1880'
Topographical drawing by Lieutenant John Day, Royal Engineers, 1880.
The Jagdalak Pass, situated between Kabul and Jellalabad, cuts through the Hindu Kush mountain range. During the 1st (1839-1842) Afghan War it was the scene of heavy fighting when the remnants of General Elphinstone's army were finally overwhelmed during the Retreat from Kabul. It also witnessed much skirmishing with local tribesmen during the 2nd Afghan War (1878-1880).
