Cap badge, other ranks, Royal Lincolnshire Regiment, 1960 (c)

Anodised aluminium badge, 1960 (c).

The Royal Lincolnshire Regiment was raised in 1685 and subsequently served in many British Army campaigns during its long history. In 1801, after service in the West Indies and India, the Regiment moved to Egypt where it fought at Alexandria to help expel the French. For its service in this campaign, it gained a sphinx on its cap badge.

In 1960, the regiment was amalgamated with the Northamptonshire Regiment to form the 2nd East Anglian Regiment (Duchess of Gloucester's Own Royal Lincolnshire and Northamptonshire).
