Hot weather trousers worn by Major Henry E Bale, 34th (The Cumberland) Regiment, 1850 (c)

Bale served in the Crimean War (1854-1856) and was severely wounded during the Siege of Sevastopol which resulted in the amputation of the forefinger of his left hand. He died in 1858 while serving during the Indian Mutiny (1857-1858).
