Formation badge worn by Sapper Toby Ecclestone, 61 Field Squadron, 33 Engineer Regiment, Explosive Ordnance Disposal

This badge was worn by Sapper Ecclestone during Operation Herrick 13 (October 2010 - April 2011) in Afghanistan. The 'A+ SPR / EC9307' text refers to the wearer's blood group, rank and ZAP number, which consists of the first two letters of his surname the last four numbers of his Army service number). The badge also bears an eye and 'REQUIRO' in a scroll underneath it, chosen because the squadron was a search team.

Ecclestone's squadron decided to have this badge produced to be recognised specifically as an Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team and thus avoid their men being asked to carry out other engineering duties.
