'Britons, Your Country Needs You', 2014

Pen and ink with watercolour by Christian Adams, 2014.

This cartoon was published in 'The Daily Telegraph' on 1 December 2014. It satirises the famous Lord Kitchener recruiting poster, with the then Secretary of State for Defence, Philip Hammond MP, as the central figure. The call for new troops, however, is only for Reservists because 'we're a bit broke.'

This cartoon was produced to reflect the Army's strategic changes as part of Army 2020 in the aftermath of the war in Afghanistan (2001-2014). The Army was looking to reduce the number of Regulars to 82,000, but expand the Reservists - cheaper to employ and deploy - to 30,000.
