Sergeant Mitchell was awarded the Military Cross on the 23 March 2012 for drawing enemy fire away from colleagues during at attack in Helmand, Afghanistan, the previous year.

From a collection of 200 A3 portrait photographs from the 'Soldiery' exhibition and book by Rory Lewis, winner of the Portrait of Britain award 2017, 2018 and 2019. As a project, 'Soldiery' featured leaders and soldiers from a range of iconic regiments, capturing the evolving face of the 21st century British Army.
