Multi-Terrain Pattern (MTP) combat trousers, 2012 (c)

The tear in the right leg of these trousers, which were worn by Sapper Anthony Bayliss of 101 Engineer Regiment (Explosive Ordnance Disposal) in Afghanistan, was caused by a Taleban sniper bullet. The round passed through the leg of an American soldier and the trouser pocket of another British soldier before hitting Bayliss's leg.

Insurgents with machine guns, rocket-propelled grenades and sniper rifles frequently attacked search teams as they painstakingly located improvised explosive devices (IEDs).
