A member of 26 Engineer Regiment holding a spade, silhouetted against the moon in Helmand Province, Afghanistan.
Operation CHAKUSH ('Hammer' in Dari) was designed to secure a crossing over the Nahr-e-Saraj Canal and to clear Taleban forces from between the towns of Gereshk and Sangin, in the irrigated 'Green Zone' of Helmand Province. The role of 26 Engineer Regiment was to rapidly construct a Forward Operating Base (FOB) to help ensure security could be maintained once the operation was over.
