Spanish folding knife used by Mark D'Arcy, 88th Regiment of Foot (Connaught Rangers), 1809 (c)

D'Arcy carried this knife during the Peninsular War (1808-1814). Known as a 'navaja', the weapon could be used as a fighting or general utility knife. Such blades were used by the Spanish 'guerrilleros' who opposed the French.
