Letter from Lieutenant William Staveley to his mother, 28 June 1816

Sent from somewhere near Boulogne, the letter describes a tour of the battlefield of Agincourt, and the proposed formation of a party to dig for relics.

During the Waterloo campaign Staveley served with the Royal Staff Corps, arriving with a detachment of the latter in the Netherlands in April 1815. He was on the headquarters staff at the Battle of Waterloo in June 1815. Staveley remained in France during the Allied occupation, returning to England in 1818.

From a collection of 179 letters and notes, 1811-1860 by Lieutenant General William Staveley, (1784-1854), and Captain E Staveley.
