Waterloo Medal 1815, trial pattern, 1816 (c)
Bronze medal with relief design. On the obverse is a laureated portrait bust of George, the Prince Regent (later King George IV), within a wreath of oak leaves. On the reverse, the winged figure of Victory holding a olive branch, seated on a pedestal with the inscription, 'Waterloo'.
The commemorative Waterloo Medal was authorised by the British Government in April 1816. This early rejected trial pattern, designed by the engraver Thomas Wyon Junior, features a portrait of the Prince Regent based on the painting by Sir Thomas Lawrence for the obverse of the medal.
