Glengarry badge, other ranks, 42nd (Royal Highland Regiment The Black Watch), 1874-1881

Brass badge with sphinx above the campaign title, 'Egypt', surmounted by the figure of St Andrew holding cross, above the regimental number, '42'; encircled by thistles and scrolls bearing the campaign titles, 'Waterloo' and 'Peninsula'.

The 42nd (Royal Highland) Regiment fought in the French and Indian Wars (1744-1755) and the American War of Independence (1775-1783). It served in both Egypt and Spain during the Napoleonic Wars and was mentioned in despatches for its service at Quatre Bras and Waterloo (1815).
