A view of the south gate of the Chateau de Hougoumont, showing battle damage. The chateau was a strongpoint in the Allied line during the Battle of Waterloo and was the site of bitter fighting throughout the 18 June 1815. This view of Hougoumont is reproduced in Dighton's famous painting of the 'Defence of the Chateau de Hougoumont by the flank company, Coldstream Guards'.
