Letter from Captain Standish O'Grady to his father the 1st Viscount Guillamore, 16 September 1815
In this letter, postmarked Fleuri sur Andelle, O'Grady reports that his regiment, the 7th Light Dragoons, is likely to remain in France for at least another 18 months, and that he had been prevented from taking leave back to England due a senior officer's visit. He complains that the area where the regiment is billeted is dull and not, with no distractions to speak of. He notes that the Army is all to receive medals for Waterloo, but suggests that there should also be one for the Peninsular campaign, as some units were posted to America in 1814. He complains that he does not receive enough letters from the family.
From a collection of 45 letters associated with Lieutenant-Colonel Standish O'Grady, later 2nd Viscount Guillamore 1813-1830. These include those written whilst serving as a lieutenant with the 7th Light Dragoons in the Peninsular War (1808-1814) and at Waterloo (1815).
