Studies for the oil painting, 'The 28th (1st Gloucestershire Regiment) at Waterloo', 1914 (c)

Charcoal and white wash drawing by William Barns Wollen (1857-1936, 1914 (c).

Studies of British infantrymen and a dead French cavalryman at the Battle of Waterloo in 1815. One figure kneels with a musket with fixed bayonet while another bandages his own hand. The dead cavalryman has a slung bugle. Wollen's oil painting of the 28th (The North Gloucestershire) Regiment of Foot at Waterloo shows French cuirassiers attacking the corner of a British infantry square on 18 June 1815. The painting is now part of the Bristol Museum and Art Gallery Collection.
