Cuirass, French Cavalry, 1815 (c)

This item of Napoleonic uniform was collected as a souvenir from the battlefield of Waterloo (1815) by Surgeon James Powell of the Ordnance Medical Department. A cuirass is a piece of armour designed to protect the chest and back. This would have been worn by a French cuirassier - a heavy cavalryman.
