Gold watch with key owned by Napoleon Bonaparte

Made by Swiss watchmaker, Abraham Louis Breguet, Paris.

After his defeat at Waterloo in 1815 Napoleon was exiled to the South Atlantic island of St Helena. The deposed emperor presented this watch to Lieutenant-General Sir Hudson Lowe who was Governor of the island from 1815 to 1821.
