Letter from the Reverend Samuel Briscoe from Paris to his sister Mary Briscoe in Stockport, 2 February 1815

The letter primarily contains news of Paris society. Briscoe writes of the Duke of Wellington: 'Your friend who told you that the Duke was not the greatest man in the world did not know what he was talking about. I only know that all great men I have seen in his presence seem to dwindle into insignificance.'

From a collection of 29 letters associated with the Rev Samuel Briscoe, military chaplain 1809-1825.
