Martinus Theunis Steyn (1857-1916) was the last president of the independent Orange Free State from 1896 to 1902. After Bloemfontein and the Orange Free State fell under British occupation, Steyn ran his government from the field, playing a key role in continuing the Boer guerrilla resistance until the end of the war in 1902.
