Side drum, used by the 1st Battalion Prince of Wales's Leinster Regiment (Royal Canadians), 1898, repainted 1905 (c)

Brass, made by Henry Potter and Company, 30 Charing Cross Road, London, 1898; repainted by Boosey and Comany, London, 1905 (c).

This drum features the battle honour 'Niagara' which was granted to the Regiment in 1875, as the Regiment was declared the successor to the 100th Regiment of Foot (Prince Regent's County of Dublin Regiment), which had served in Canada.

Like many drums this was one was repainted after the South African War (1899-1902) to enable new battle honours for that campaign to be added.
