Pattern 1796, Light Cavalry Officers sword, 1815

The blade of this sword is curved and fullered with engraved decoration in the linear style typical of the period. The decoration includes floral designs, trophies of arms and, under the langet, the letters 'ASB', which probably refer to the maker on account of their position. The sword has a steel stirrup guard with scalloped edged langets and a leather covered grip with some double twisted wire binding remaining.

The Royal United Service Institute list states that this weapon was carried by Colonel Lane of the 15th (The King's) Regiment of (Light) Dragoons (Hussars), at the Battle of Waterloo (1815). The colonel was one of the officers who assisted Captain William Sibourne in the building of his famous Waterloo Model.
