Silver medal commemorating the Duke of Wellington and Field Marshal Blucher, 1815 (c)

Silver medal by J N Lang (1776-1835), Vienna and Austria, 1815 (c).

The obverse has portrait busts of Wellington and Blucher in armour, facing each other, with the inscription, 'Dux Wellington. et Princeps Blücher'. On the reverse is a figure of Winged Victory holding two laurel wreaths between two trophies of arms, with the inscription, 'Belle Alliance'. Roman numerals record the dates of the 16th and 18th of June 1815, presumably to mark the major engagements of the Waterloo campaign, Quatre Bras, Ligny and Waterloo.
