Miniature painting on ivory by an unknown artist, 1860 (c). Inscribed on the front, '1st Battalion 3rd Regiment The Buffs' and indistinctly verso, 'Lt Col rl G J Ambrose A Captain Lulilver R.N. Canton, Decr. 1860'. In a black leather, hinged case lined with blue silk.
Crossed regimental colours with a crown above and a dragon below, 1860 (c).
Lieutenant-Colonel George James Ambrose CB commanded the 1st Battalion, 3rd (The East Kent) Regiment of Foot (The Buffs) from 1857 until his death in 1862.
