Union flag made in the Kabul Bazaar, 1879

The flag has a small handwritten label which reads: 'Made in Kabul bazaar 1879'. It seems probable that it was made during the 2nd Afghan War (1878-1880) for the official reoccupation of the Bala Hissar fortress by Major-General Frederick Roberts on 12 October 1879.
