Elements of a prefabricated blockhouse on a flat bed wagon, 1901 (c)
Photograph by Lieutenant Francis Hills Cobb, Royal Engineers, Boer War (1899-1902), 1902 (c).
The introduction of the prefabricated blockhouse allowed the swift development of the cross-country security system. Over 50 blockhouses and posts were constructed along a line from Wonderfontein (176km east of Pretoria) to Carolina (40 km to the south), between 30 December 1901 and 17 January 1902.
From an album of 24 photographs taken by Lieutenant Francis Hills Cobb.
