'Boer Farm and New Zealand Hill - Boers made desperate night attack to take these heights, Jan. 14th', 1900

On 14 January 1900, soldiers from the first New Zealand contingent defeated a Boer attempt to seize a hill overlooking their camp at Slingersfontein. In recognition of its gallant conduct the site of the action was later renamed New Zealand Hill.
From a box of 89 stereoscopic cards entitled, 'South African War through the Stereoscope Pt 2 Vol 1', published by Underwood and Underwood, and produced by Works and Sun Sculpture Studios, 1900 (c).
