Photograph, World War One (1914-1918).
Lilian Franklin joined the First Aid Nursing Yeomanry (FANY) in 1909 and served with considerable distinction during World War One. She was mentioned in dispatches in 1917 and awarded an OBE in 1918. A natural leader, she was in charge of the first convoy of FANYs driving for the Army in 1916. She became commandant of the FANY in 1924.
