An Advanced Dressing Station, August 1916

Lantern slide, World War One, Western Front (1914-1918), 1916.

This dressing station was established during the Battle of Pozières (23 July-7 August 1916) on the Somme. The town, on the main road running north from Albert to Bapaume, was attacked on 23 July 1916 by 1st Australian Division and the British 145th Infantry Brigade. The position was taken, but with heavy losses. The ambulance on the right of this photograph bears the fern leaf insignia of New Zealand next to its cab door.

From a box of 72 lantern slides.
