Lieutenant D H Hawkins who had already won the Military Medal went on to be awarded the Military Cross for his actions during the Italian campaign. He was wounded near Termoli on 5 October 1943.
In early 1943, the 3rd County of London Yeomanry (Sharpshooters) were moved to Cowley Camp at Mena near Cairo. While in Egypt, the Sharpshooters undertook routine training as well as TEWTs, Tactical Exercises Without Troops.
