Drummer's sword, Pattern 1856, Mark I

Made by Robert Mole and Sons.

Presented to Lieutenant-Colonel Wood and officers of the 2nd Battalion, Connaught Rangers by Brevet Major Ionides, East Surrey Regiment, July 1903.

The sword was reputedly found in a Boer farm near the Vaal River, South Africa, during the Boer War (1899-1902), in 1901.
