Leather music card pouch and contents, 1880 (c)

This music card pouch was retrieved by the Boers during the Transvaal War (1880-1881) from the battlefield of Bronkhorstspruit on 20 December 1880. It contains manuscript and printed music for first clarinet, inscribed with the name of Bandsman F Dennis. Lance Corporal Francis Dennis is recorded in the muster rolls of the 94th Regiment of Foot as having been killed in action at Bronkhorstspruit. He left a widow, Margaret, but no children.
