'HM watching a tank display', King George V at Neuve Eglise, 5 July 1917

Photograph, World War One (1914-1918), 1917.

King George V and Brigadier-General Hugh Elles, commander of the Tank Corps, observe two Mark IV tanks navigating an obstacle course at Neuve Eglise on 5 July 1917. The tank on the right is a 'male', with the larger sponsons each housing a 6 pounder gun, and the one on the right, a 'female', with two Lewis machine guns mounted on each side.

From a photograph album of 253 photographs compiled by Charles William Stulpnagel (known as Swinton after December 1914), 50th Heavy Artillery Group, 1889-1920.
