Tenor drum, 1st Battalion Royal Irish Regiment, 1905-1910

Made by Henry Potter and Company, 30 Charing Cross Road, London, 1905 (c).

Tenor drums provided a different pitch and sound to the bass drum, and side drums (or snare drums) in military bands. The battle honours on this drum reflect the Regiment's service in the South African War. The first battalion alone suffered over 300 casualties during the War, including those who were wounded or killed in action, died of disease or were taken prisoner.
