Adams .45 in double action revolver, 1870 (c)
This weapon was carried by Lieutenant-Colonel Hans Garrett Moore VC, 88th Regiment of Foot (Connaught Rangers).
Hans Garrett Moore was born in Carlingford in County Louth, Ireland in 1834. Moore served with the 88th Regiment of Foot (Connaught Rangers) during the Indian Mutiny (1857-1859) and went on to take part in the Ashanti War (1873-1874). During the 9th Cape Frontier War (1877-1879), Moore attempted to save the life of a dismounted member of the Frontier Mounted Police. His efforts, while ultimately unsuccessful, resulted in him being awarded the Victoria Cross.
Moore went on to serve in the Egyptian War (1882) and rose to the rank of Colonel. On 7 October 1889, following a day's sailing on Lough Derg in County Tipperary, Moore was drowned during a gale.
