Lieutenant-Colonel Percival Robert-Innes (formerly Robert Percival Innes), in staff frock coat and waistcoat, 1890 (c)

Oil on canvas by John Henry Sylvester (1830-1903), 1890.

The son of a non-conformist minister from Norwich, Innes joined the Bengal Army in 1843 and saw action in the 1st Sikh War (1845-1846) at the battles of Sobraon and Ferozeshah. He served with the 1st Bengal European Fusiliers and retired with the rank of honorary Lieutenant-Colonel in 1870, returning home to live in Kensington, where he died in 1906.
