Lance Naik, 66th Bengal Native Infantry (Volunteers), 1842

Raised in 1832, the 66th Bengal Native Infantry were stationed at Barrackpore, near Calcutta, in 1842. The picture could be either a portrait of a particular individual or a record of the uniform of the period. The 66th Bengal Native Infantry was disbanded after a mutiny in 1849 over the withdrawal of batta (field allowance) owed for service in the Punjab.
