Bren .303 inch Mk III light machine gun, 1944
The Mark 3 Bren gun reverted to the original lighter body of the Mark 1 weapon which had been developed from the Czech ZB vz. 26 machine gun in the 1930s. It retained the simpler sight of the Mark 2 but with a shorter barrel. During World War Two (1939-1945) the Bren gun was manufactured in Australia and Canada, as well as in England, to ensure that supplies of the highly effective and popular weapon were maintained.
