Meerschaum pipe, 1902 (c)

This stone pipe was owned by General Louis Botha and was taken from him, in Pretoria, during the Boer War (1899-1902) by Lieutenant V R Brooke of the 9th (Queen's Royal) Lancers. Botha was one of the Boer's finest commanders, but after the war he worked for reconciliation between the Afrikaners and the British in South Africa.
