Two Indian officers standing in front of a Daimler Armoured Car, 1943 (c)

Photograph, World War Two, Far East, 1943 (c).

This vehicle was a development of the Daimler Scout car or 'Dingo', a small armoured vehicle for scouting and liaison roles. A larger version fitted with a turret and two pounder gun became the Daimler Armoured Car. Like the scout car, it incorporated some of the most advanced design concepts of the time and was one of the best British AFVs of World War Two. Indian Army units first used them during the North African campaign.

From a collection of official photographs collected by Major General (later Lieutenant General) Sir Frank Walter Messervy.
