This photograph was taken in England prior to Operation OVERLORD, the invasion of mainland Europe in June 1944.
According to the Sharpshooters war diary Major Harold Phelps was wounded on 1 July 1944 in Normandy. He rejoined the regiment in November 1944 from England to command 'C' Squadron. In January 1945 he took command of 'B' Squadron until early April 1945.
