This photograph was taken in England prior to Operation OVERLORD, the invasion of mainland Europe in June 1944.

According to the Sharpshooters' war diary Lieutenant Ted Dunn joined the unit in Italy as a reinforcement on 11 November 1943. He was subsequently awarded the Military Cross for his actions during the campaign.
