Lieutenant-Colonel 'Sandy' Cameron won the Military Cross and bar and the Distinguished Service Order (DSO), serving with 4th County of London Yeomanry (Sharpshooters) in North Africa in 1942. Cameron took over command of 3rd County of London Yeomanry (Sharpshooters) in Sicily in 1943. He was awarded a bar for his DSO for his actions at Termoli during the campaign on mainland Italy.
This photograph was taken in England prior to Operation OVERLORD, the invasion of mainland Europe in June 1944. Following the Normandy invasion Cameron was not selected to command the amalgamated 3rd/4th County of London Yeomanry and he returned to England to take up a training role.
